Wedding Floral Budget: What You Should Actually Plan to Spend

When it comes to planning your wedding, your wedding floral budget is often one of the biggest “surprise” expenses for couples.

I hear it all the time – couples come in with a general idea of what flowers might cost, but once we start talking through their vision, guest count, and overall design, the numbers can shift pretty quickly.

And it’s not because anything is being added unnecessarily, it’s because florals aren’t just “flowers.” They play a huge role in the overall look, feel, and experience of your day.

If you’re trying to figure out what’s realistic (and how to make the most of your budget), this guide will walk you through what actually impacts floral pricing, where your investment goes, and how to prioritize what matters most.

In This Guide:

  • What couples think they’ll spend vs. what’s realistic
  • The percentage of your wedding budget to allocate to florals
  • What actually drives the cost of wedding flowers
  • Typical floral pieces + price ranges
  • The floral elements that make the biggest visual impact
  • How to prioritize your must-haves
  • Smart ways to maximize your floral budget

What Couples Think They’ll Spend vs. Reality

A lot of online advice will tell you that $5,000 or 15-20% of your budget is enough for wedding flowers.

And while that’s not necessarily wrong, I find that 20-30% is the most realistic range for most weddings.

Why? Because florals aren’t just “flowers.” You’re paying for:

  • Premium stems (which can range wildly in price)
  • Design time
  • Labor
  • Installation
  • Rentals (vases, structures, mechanics)
  • On-site setup and teardown

And then there’s guest count and bridal party size – two of the biggest factors that can quickly increase your overall floral budget.

What Actually Impacts Your Wedding Floral Budget

Florals are one of the most variable parts of your wedding budget because so many things affect the final cost.

Some of the biggest ones:

Guest count + table count
Every table typically needs a centerpiece, so the difference between 12 tables and 30 is significant.

Flower selection
Not all flowers are created equal. Some stems cost $.50 a stem, others cost $30 a stem – and even the same flower in a different color can vary in price.

Installations + statement pieces
If you’re dreaming of hanging chandeliers, large-scale arches, or custom installs, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes – ladders, mechanics, water sources, and additional team members.

Labor + time on-site
The more complex your design, the more time (and people) it takes to bring it to life.

Typical Wedding Floral Pieces + Price Ranges

To give you a better idea of where your budget goes, here’s a breakdown of common floral elements:

  • Bridal Bouquet
Most bridal bouquets start around $300 and can go up to around $500 depending on size and stem selection. These typically include the most premium flowers and take the most time to design.
  • Boutonnieres
Generally $18-$24 each and fairly standard across weddings.
  • Ceremony Pedestals / Floral Installations
A popular ceremony setup includes florals both on top and at the base of pedestals.
These typically run around $650-$800 per set, including rentals.
  • Compote Centerpieces
One of the most popular styles of centerpieces we create! These include a premium compote vase rental with florals. Expect $125-$175 per table, depending on container size and added elements like candles.
  • Elevated Centerpieces
These are also super popular, and I think people often don’t realize how much actually goes into them. Between the amount of florals, the mechanics to keep everything hydrated and secure, and the rental stands themselves – there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. These typically start around $250+ per table and can go up from there depending on size and design.

The Floral Pieces That Make the Biggest Impact

If you’re wondering where your money will go the furthest, here’s the truth:

🌸 Statement pieces are everything.

Ceremony arches, bar installations, staircase moments, chandeliers, front entrance designs, and large focal areas will always have more visual impact than lots of smaller details.

These larger, intentional installs are what really transform a space and create those unforgettable, high-impact moments.

If you want a deeper look at how this plays out throughout your wedding day, I break it down even further in this post on the five floral moments that make the biggest impact.

How to Prioritize Your Floral Budget

When I work with couples, I always start with this question:

“What are the pieces you feel like you can’t live without?”

From there, we build your design around those priorities and approach everything backwards from your budget.

I always want to understand what feels most important to you first – those “non-negotiable” pieces – so we can make sure your budget is being used in a way that actually reflects your vision.

If your wishlist exceeds your budget (which is very common), I’ll walk you through what you’d realistically be looking at investment-wise and help you understand where adjustments can be made.

From there, I offer suggestions on how to scale things down while still giving you a similar overall look and feel – so you’re not sacrificing the experience, just being more intentional about where your budget goes.

Smart Ways to Maximize Your Floral Investment

If you want that elevated, cohesive design without overspending, here are a few of my favorite strategies:

Repurpose your florals
Use ceremony arrangements again at your reception – on the bar, sweetheart table, or head table. I love recommending this because it ensures nothing gets left behind or forgotten after the ceremony.

Focus on impact, not quantity
Instead of investing in full florals for every single table, consider mixing in statement pieces with simpler designs.

Reevaluate traditions
Do you really need 15 bridesmaids? Or could you have one Maid of Honor and 14 house party girls?
I also have many couples skip boutonnieres entirely – it’s not always something people care about, and that budget can be used elsewhere.

Be flexible with flower choices
Trust your florist to guide you toward blooms that give you the look you want while staying within budget.

What to Keep in Mind as You Plan Your Florals

If there’s one thing I want you to take away, it’s this:

It’s always better to overestimate your floral budget than underestimate it.

And more importantly – this is your day. Just because something is traditional or expected doesn’t mean you have to include it.

Focus on the elements that matter most to you, invest in the pieces that will make the biggest impact, and let the rest support that vision.
