We get it. When it comes to wedding planning, you’re going to hear a lot of “You need to do this..”, “you need to do that…”, “Whatever you do, don’t do that….”. All the opinions of a lot of different people will immediately start being thrown at you, whether you ask for them or not. This can make the process of wedding planning so stressful, and down right unenjoyable for a lot of brides. If I can give any piece of advice to my brides: HIRE THE WEDDING PLANNER. And not just the cheapest one you find. This is an area where your money will be more than well spent. So buckle up, here’s our
10 Reasons You Need to Hire a Wedding Planner.
ONE: Budgeting
For a lot of brides, and mother’s of the bride, if they have not had any other children get married in the last 2-3 years, most have no clue what to expect on what weddings cost. Just like everything in the world, the cost of weddings continues to only go up every year. Weddings that took place 2-3 years ago, are significantly different in budget than today’s weddings. A planner will be able to talk through your wants and needs, and realistically show you what your budget would look like. They also are able to take a set budget, and show you what options can fit into that budget. A planner can give you a realistic quote on what certain vendors will cost and make sure to keep it within your budget!
TWO: Knowledge is Key
After the excitement of the engagement has worn off, and you’re ready to get down to business planning your wedding, the first thing you should do is hire your wedding planner. Most people believe the date and the venue are the most important things to figure out. And while they are important, your planner should be the very first thing you choose. When you hire an experienced planner – you’re going to learn the in’s and out’s of every venue you have on your list. Based off of your wants and needs, your planner will be able to help you narrow down venues to 3-4 solid choices. There’s so many questions to ask when it comes to picking your venue: what do they include/not include. What are their restrictions? Every venue is different in how they run things. Some require a set list you have to pick your vendors from. Some don’t allow access to the venue on a wedding day until 12 PM or later. All of these things will make a big impact on your day. Your planner will be the biggest help through this process.
THREE: Find The Best of The Best
Wedding Planners spend every week/weekend working with different vendors across all areas of the wedding industry. Based on your needs and your budget, your planner is going to be able to point you in the direction of vendors who will be the best choice for you! For example: your bartenders and caterers probably have to come from your venues preferred vendor list. You might love a certain florist, but their minimum investment might be out of what you have aloted in your budget for flowers. Your planner will know these things, and be able to show you similar florists who fit the same vibe, but with a smaller minimum; or, they can help adjust your budget so that the florist you cant live without – fits into your budget!
FOUR: A Helping Hand to Hold Along The Way
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it a million times again – wedding planning can be SO stressful. Especially for the bride who isn’t a planner, a creative or a bride who’s had her Pinterest Wedding Board planned out since high school. There’s going to come a time in the planning process where you reach questions that you just flat out don’t know how to tackle or where to begin searching for answers and just want someone to tell you the best option FOR YOU! That’s where your wedding planner comes in. After spending countless time with you in meetings, vendor consults and daily conversations, your planner will know you, your personality and what is going to be the best fit for you!
FIVE: A Timeline is Everyone’s Best Friend
Wedding days are crazy. Mainly, they feel like a lot of hurry up and wait – and then as soon as the ceremony is over, the day flies by in the blink of an eye. Every single part of a wedding day must follow a timeline for things to go in order. Every. Single. Part. If the rental company is late with linens, then the florist will be behind on their set up, which can put the caterer behind. If hair and make-up takes too long, the photographer won’t be able to fit all of the pre-ceremony photos in on time. Your wedding planners job is to insure all vendors and your wedding party stay on time and on track throughout the whole day. I promise, this is not a job you want to pass off to your mom or a bridesmaid.
SIX: They’ll Bring Your Design To Life
Every single decision and choice you make throughout wedding planning will make an impact on your overall wedding design. From the linen choice, flatware and china selections, to the curated color palette of the florals, everything ties together to create the overall vision. Most brides have no clue what colors or styles to put together. This is another area where your wedding planner will come in. Wedding planners have incredible style and taste, and know how to curate the perfect design for your big day. You shouldn’t spend hours on end trying to pick the perfect shade of bridesmaids dresses that will match your napkins. Let your planner do that for you! We love how Dori with Sweet Laurel Events curated this Spring wedding.
SEVEN: Personal To-Do List
A bride’s to do list is always forever long. There are so many things to tackle in terms of booking vendors, selecting options and preparing for the big day. You’ll see a million different books and planners for sale telling you an “estimated” timeline of when you should tackle certain things. No one knows your venue and vendors timelines better than a wedding planner. They know what things to tackle first, and will keep you on track in the least stressful way. They’ll check in with you as you need to tackle new items on your list, and make sure you’re staying on top of all the things that need to get done!
EIGHT: Day of Right Hand Lady
Wondering how you’re going to change shoes in your form fitting dress? Or where you’re going to put your lipstick to re-apply throughout the day? Que your wedding planner. From holding all of your essentials you might need that day, to stepping in and helping change dresses or shoes, your planner is there to assist in anything you might need! You just said “I do” – I can assure you, a fabulous planner will be meeting you with a celebratory drink so you wont have to make your way to the bar before portraits start. Just another reason, you need to hire a wedding planner.
NINE: Money Saving and Heartache Saving
One of the biggest things I find as a florist in dealing with clients, is that very few people actually read through their contracts. As small businesses, most of your wedding vendors (hopefully, all of them) should have very detailed contracts in place to protect both the clients and their business. After hiring 4-5 different vendors, these contracts can all start to look and feel the same and be overwhelming. Yet another place your wedding planner will come in. They will keep tract of all contracts and make sure that all policies and requirements are being met so no last minute fees or mishaps happen.
TEN: Your Late Night Saving Grace
You’ve spent all day celebrating and enjoying your big day. You and your hubby are whisked off in the get-away car and on your way to the hotel. But what about all of your decor and items at the venue? Your bridesmaids and family are too tired, and probably too drunk, to have to worry about those items. In comes your fairy Godmother Wedding Planner. Another part of their job is insuring and facilitating the clean up of your venue and making sure everything is out in time so no additional charges incur. They’ll pack any personal belongings into your vehicles and make sure all vendors do their part in insuring a smooth clean up.
